Biography
Manuel L. Posadas was born in Buenos Aires in the year 1860. He is the
son of a musician, journalist and a soldier called Manuel G. Posadas and Emilia
Smith. He was the brother of Carlos Posadas who was also successful in the
local music scene of the country. He showed talent for music, he studied in the
school of music of the region of Buenos Aires in the year 1875 by Pedro Ripari.
In the year 1879, Manuel L. Posadas travelled to Belgium to study and
improve. He entered the Royal Conservatory of Brussel, and there he studied
under some of the greatest masters in Europe, including the violinist and
Belgian composer called Eugene Ysaye. He played the musical instrument called
violin at the Theatro Real of the galleries in Belgium and in the year 1882, v
went back to Buenos Aires and was on a concert at the Coliseum Theatre on the 9th
September of that year.
Manuel L. Posadas went back to Brussels for a while, but finally went
back to his native city to settle and he devoted his time to the teaching of
music. He became the first teacher of the violin for the Teatro Colon and was a
teacher at the National Institute for the blind in the country. He was the teacher of Juan Jose Castro.
Manuel L. Posadas also directed some bands that inspired the dance
carnivals in Buenos Aires.
Manuel L. Posadas died in Buenos Aires in the year 1916.
