The sralai is a wind
musical instrument that is used in the pinpeat of Cambodia. It increased
fourfold reed is produced of palm leaf and the body has a little conical bore.
The instrument’s cousin, the western oboe has a double reed and a conical bore.
The pinpeat instruments move to the sralai’s pitch and the players of this
instrument are always trained to play continuously without stopping for breath
or rest. The sralai is analogous in construction and playing to the “pi” which
is found in Thailand.
