The thon and rammana are hand drums that are played as a pair in the central Thailand classical music and Cambodian classical music. It is made up of two drums which are “the thon” which is a goblet drum with a ceramic or wooden body and “the rammana” which is a small flame drum. The thon and rammana are used in the khruangsai group and as the thon produced a low pitch sound, the rammana produced a high pitch sound. In the early part of the 20th century, the musical instruments were sometimes separately played by the performers.
