In
1994, after the independence of Eritrea and the gain of international
recognition, a group of musicians were brought together through the direction
of Kahsay Gebrehewet as part of Eritrea’s nation building efforts, the then
musicians who had previously performed in different revolutionary music group
were brought together as a national music and dance group, Sibret (heritage) were
performed as music and dance that is from all the nine Eritrean’s main ethnic
groups (Tigrinya, Afra, Billen, Nara, Rashaida, Hedareb, and Saho), they all
feature regular on Eritrean radio and television concerts and perform as
representatives of Eritrean culture around the world and their musical
instruments which include amplified Krar, drum and bass krar.
