Ndalu de Almeida was born in the year 1977. He is an Angolan writer,
writing with the pen name Ondjaki. He resides in Luanda, the capital city of
the country and has written several poetry, children’s books, short stories,
novels, drama and film scripts.

Ondjaki studied sociology at the University of Lisbon and wrote hi
graduation paper about the Angolan writer LuandinoVeira. His debut in the
literary world came in the year 2000 with the poetry cook called ActuSanguíneu that was followed by the childhood
memoir called Bomdiacamaradas in the year 2001. Up till the year 2010, Ondjaki has published five novels, three collections
of short stories, four collections of poetry and children’s books. Ondjaki has
also published a documentary movie, May Cherries Grow, which was about his
native city. His books have been translated to the French, Spanish, Italian,
German, Serbian, English, Polish and Swedish languages.
In the year 2008, Ondjaki was given the award of the Grinzane for the
Africa Prize in the section of the Best Young Writer. In the year 2012, the
Guardian mentioned him to be one of the Top Five African Writers.
