Newly composed folk music of Republic of Macedonia

Macedonian newly composed folk music is current renowned pattern based on the traditional music. Though, unlike the newly-composed folk music, it is credited to a particular writer and it is under the copyright laws, it is performed by professional artists and it is usually played along with new instrumentation. Normally, the older artists and composers (such as the highly commended Aleksandar Sarievski, Jonce Hristovski and Dobri Stravreski) stay closer to the traditional origins and also some of the new-composed folk songs are frequently mistaken for traditional. On the other hand, the younger ones use to adapt to the modernized sound and image, therefore it is being condemned by the traditional purists as kitsch. But the pattern is renowned among the common people and prominent artists include Suzana Spasovska, Elena Georgieva, Mitre Mittrevski, Vojo Stojanovski, Efto Pupinovski, Orce Stefkovski Zoran Vanev, Dragan Vucic and Vaska IIieva and others. Also, some of the artists perform traditional songs. The modern generation of musicians of this genre are Elena Velevska, Aneta Nakovska, Blagojce Stojanovski-TUSE, Jasmina Mukaetova, Pane Panev altogether with the ensembles such as Art Plaza, Bolero bend and Bioritam have presented a newer outlook to this type of music encouraged by Serbia turbofolk, Bulgarian chalga and Greek laika and their style is reflected as pop-folk rather than the folk music.

Several renowned folk music festivals are be existent including folk fest Valandovo in Valando, Serenada na Sirok sokak in Bitola, Cvetnici in Skopje and Ohridski trubaduri etc.

Traditionally, the new music is made and performed in other part of the countries where ethnic Macedonian community live, which include mainly the Balkan countries that surrounded the Republic of Macedonia, as well as territories resulting from the diaspora in the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries. A prominent instance is the folk artist who is known as Kostas Novakis who is from Greece (born in Koufalia, Thessaloniki regional unit, Greek Macedonia) who assertions Macedonian ethnicity and performs traditional ethnic Macedonian music.

In spite the political strains between the Republic of Macedonian with the ethnic Macedonians on one side and Greece on the other Novakis produced several CD titles through traditional ethnic Macedonian music in Greece.
