The sabar is from the serer people in origin. The sabar is a traditional musical drum that is from the West African nation of Senegal. The musical instrument is also played in Gambia. Generally, the musical instrument is performed with one hand and one stick. Among its renowned exponents is the Senegalese music performer known as Doudou N’Diaye Rose. The musical instrument was used as a means of communication to the other villages. The various rhythms correspond to phrases and could be heard for more than 15 km.
The musical instrument is also appreciated as the style of music performed while using the drum.
