The
Sri Lanka music has its origins in four main influences; the olden traditional
rituals, Buddhist religious folk, the legacy of European colonization and the
commercial and historical influence of close Indian culture, particularly,
Bollywood cinema. The Theravada group of Buddhism has used a special influence
on Sri Lankan music since Buddhism came in Sri Lanka within the opening of the
first millennium.

Portuguese
colonists were including the initial Europeans to cam into the Sri Lanka,
landing during the in mid-15th century. They introduced with them
folk like ukulele, guitars, cantiga ballads,
as well as drafted Africans (means historically, as kaffrinhas), who extent their own pattern of music known as baila. The confluence of both the
African and European customs served to further expand the musical origins of
current Sri Lankan music.
