folk music of Zagorje, an area of the north of Zagreb, which is known for the
small groups comprising of the violins, cimbule, tamburice and harmonike, the
tamburica (which is also known as tambura) it is the Croatian national string
instrument. Though they are a rich pool of folk songs in this region, the
traditions are not being going and most zagorian folk music is available and it
is performed by the amateur groups, it is also shown in the quality of the
music, which is mainly reduced to happy up beat songs.

The
folk music of the Medimurje is small but it is different from the northern
region of the Croatia, with its unhappy and soothing tunes it became the most
well-known form of the folk to be used in the recent ethno pop-rock songs.
Apart the Cimbule and violins, there is also a tradition of brass groups that
are used to play an important role in the cultural life every day. On the other
hand, they are the founder of the every regional celebration or wedding but on
the other hand they are also known for playing at funerals and feasts.
In
the Istria and Kvarner, a native instrument which is like the sopila, curla and
diple that make a different regional sound, this is particularly diatonic in
nature that follow the special I Istrian scale.
