The salsa music was born among the Puerto Ricans and Cubans, but soon
spread to Colombia.
The native salsa groups
such as Fruko Y sus Tesos and labels that recorded them like Discos Fuentes.
The artists like Joe Arroyo that followed, inventing a distinctively Colombian
form of salsa. Other powerful Colombian salsa groups are Cristian Del Real the
Timbal Genius, Grupo Niche, Alquimia, La Misma Gente, Los Titanes, Los Nemus
del Pacifico, Orquestra Guayacan and Grupo Gale. Some of the main prolific
singers in the genre are Jairo Varela and Nino Caicedo, whose compositions have
been recorded by Grupo Niche and Orquestra Guayacan respectively. Many Cuban
and Puerto Rican musicians who have produced in Colombia, like Diego Valdes and
Israel Tanenbaum, have jointed with the Colombians in salsa projects. Currently,
Colombian dancers have become the World Champions over the years and the style
have become more famous and accepted among Salsa professionals worldwide, with
two of the mains prominent salsa schools being Swing Latino that was driven by
the dance choreographer Edurado EI Mulato Hernandez, and Constelacion Latino
driven by one of the world most beloved dancers Jhoanna KKO Agudelo. This terms
of the Colombian salsa as a dance it is very special and different from the New
York/ Puerto Rico and Cuban salsa.
