Germans have played a leading role in the establishment of classical music. Many of the best classical artists such as Handel, Bach, Beethoven Schumann, Haydn, Mahler, Brahams, Wagner, Schubert or Schoenberg (a lineage labeled the German stem by Igor Stravinsky) were German. At the beginning of the 15th century, German classical music was transformed by Oswald von Wolkenstein, who toured across Europe learning about the classical folk, spending time in countries such as Italy and France. He brought back some methods and patterns to his homeland, and within a hundred years, Germany had begun releasing singers popular across the continent. Among the first of these composers was the organist Cornad Paumann.
