A mouth organ is a general name given
to all free reed aerophone with one or more air chambers closely attached with
a free reed. Though it distances many traditions, the instrument is played
generally the same way by the musician placing their lips over a chamber or
hole in the musical instrument and blowing or drawing to produce a sound. Many
of the chambers could be played together or each personally. The mouth organ is
found all round the world and is known by many different names and seen in many
diverse traditions. The most notable variation are; the pan flute, the
harmonica and the Asian free reed wind and instrument that is made up of a number
of bamboos pipes of differing lengths attached into a wind chest and they
includes the “khean, lusheng, sheng, yu, sho and saenghwang. The melodica made
up of a single tube that is importantly blown through a keyboard is another
difference.
