The palm wine music in Sierra Leone is known as maringa, and it was first promoted by Ebenezer Calendar & His Maringar Ensemble, who used patterns of Caribbean patterns, particularly the Trinidad calypso. Calendar played the guitar, mandolin, the cornet and trumpet, while also penning some of the very oft-played songs in Sierra Leonean music in the 50s and 60s. His very renowned song was Double-Decker Bus, and it was commission by Decca to popularize the launching of a double-decker bus line. He finally moved in the direction of social and spiritual aware lyrics.
