The
rumba is music of Cuban origin, but it is entirely African in style, using only
voice, drumming and dance, this is a secular musical style from the docks and
the less prosperous areas of Havana and Matanzas. The rumba musicians use the
trio of drums, similar in appearance to conga percuss (they are known as tumba,
llanador and qunito), and alternatively, wooden boxes (cajones) may be used.
Also, the clave is used and sometimes spoon, there is always a vocal element,
as Africa style, but sung in Spanish call and response vocals.
