The rock music in Iran has been influenced by several traditional forms of Iranian music and famous rock band like Pink Floyd, the Doors, Dire Straits, AC/DC, Metallica and Pantera. The Iranian rock music was first established in the 1970s, but was largely silent during the 1980s, only to witness a recurrence in the 1990s. One of the notable Heavy metal; bands is Angband that is the first Iranian metal band to produced its work internationally through an European record label.

Some of the well-known personalities in Iran includes Hypernova, 127, Angband, Mohsen Namjoo, Kiosk (band), Kavus Torabi, Agah bahari and the Yellow Dogs Band.
