key-figure of that period was the leronimos o Tragodistis (Hieronymus the
Cantor), a Cypriot students of the Gioseffo Zarlino, who became famous 1550 to
1560 and among others, proposed a system that help the medieval Byzantine song
to correspond to the contemporary contrapuntal practices through the cantus
firmus paraphrase.
