Some of the biggest
musical stars from the Middle East have been Egyptians; with some particularly
famous musicians like Umm Kulthum and Abel Halim Hafez, a good number of these
stars include Umm Kulthum, Egyptian tradition. Some artists such as Abel el-
Halim Hafez, was associated with the Egyptian nationalist movement in the year
1952. The current Egyptian music trace its origin to the creative work of
luminaries such as Abdul Hamuli, Almaz and Mahud Osman, who all got their
patronage from Khedive Ismail, and who influenced the future work of Sayed Dar
wish, Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Adbel Wahab, Abdel Halim Hafez, Zakariyya Ahmad and
other Egyptian musicians.
