The slentho is a musical instrument
of the gamelan. The musical instrument is analogous to the saron family of
musical instruments, and would be its lowest member. Like those musical
instruments, the slentho has seven keys in the same arrangement, over a
resonator box, and is hit with the use of a wooden mallet. Meanwhile, unlike
the other instruments in the family of sarons, the center of this musical
instrument’s keys has a boss analogous to that of the boning. The slentho often
has the same notes as the slenthem, but has a brighter and louder sound.

The musical instrument is no longer a
common musical instrument in the gamelan, having largely been replaced by the
slenthem. The musical instrument, meanwhile, continue to be used in the ancient
sets of gamelan, in which it may be used in first choice to the slenthem in the
gendhing bonang.
