This is one of the traditional Carnaval rhythms, a join between the music of the carnestolendas (which is 3 days of Carnaval before Ash Wednesday) of the Spaniards and of the indigenous peoples. It migrated with the indigenous carnivals which were celebrated separately from the Spanish carnival. The music and dance are both one tone, but not dull, as they are happy and colourful and nearly and attended the drums, cymbals and trumpet.
