TUNGSO: Korean musical instrument
https://worldhitz4u.blogspot.com/2014/10/tungso-korean-musical-instrument.html
The tungso is a
notched, end-blown vertical bamboo flute that is used in
traditional music of Korea. The musical instrument is analogous to the danso, though it is longer and larger.
The
musical instrument is equivalent to the Chinese musical instrument called xiao and Japanese musical instrument
called shakuhachi. A unique feature of the musical
instrument, unlike other vertical flutes that are in existence, is that tungso
might have a buzzing membrane that is analogous to that of the Korean
transverse flute, known as the daegeum. This is specifically mutual in the
folk version of the musical instrument.
The
musical instrument is a vertical flute that is manufactured of thick and aged
bamboo. Until the mid-Joseon Period, the musical instrument had been used
mostly in the court music, but by the ending part of the 19th century and the
early part of the 20th century, the musical instrument became a more
extensively used musical instrument. Today, the tungso is performed in
accompaniment to masked dances such as the Bukcheong Sajanoreum.
Regarding
the name of the musical instrument, tong
means "hole" and so
talk about the notched end-blown and vertical bamboo musical flute.
