Tinka Kurti

Tinka Kurti was born on the 17^th December 1932. She is one of the best popular actresses from Albania. Her body of work is about 60 years and has been in more than 50 movies.  And over 150 theatre plays. She has been given the award of the People’s Artist of Albania medal.

Biography

Tinka was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was the oldest of the 4 children from her parents. At a tender age, he family relocated to Shkoder in the northern of Albania. It was in that city that she spent most of her life and eventually joined the theatre as a teenager.

In the year 1947, she was expelled from the Liceu Artistik in Tirana and she could never graduate again, but this never stopped her from making her first turn up in the theatre of the country at the age of 16, a minor role in the play drama called wedding from Shkodra. From the year 1949, she turned into a member of the Theatre Migjeni in the city, and it was there that she became part of more than 120 plays. Some of the plays include; Gjaku i Arbrit, Histori Irkutase, Toka Jonë, Fisheku në pajë and Fejesa e Çehovit.

She never limited herself only to the theatre plays and she made up her mind to give film a trial also. In the year 1958, she was selected as the leading female function in the first feature fil of the country called Tana, and this was followed by endless film roles that would authamatically turn her name into a treasure in the arts of the county.  Some of the movies include; the Grandmother in "Zemra e Nënës", Mother Pashako in "Yjet e netëve të gjata", ", Sinjorina Mançini in "Vajzat me kordele të kuqe" and the Mother in "Cifti i lumtur".

In Tirana and Durres, two cinemas are named after her as well as the school Lekbibaj, which is a village in the country, Albania.

In the year 2003, Esat Teliti compiled a bibliographical documentary as a tribute to the life of the actress and was called Tinka.

To this present day, she is still active in the movie industry of the country and she always amaze her fans and audience wherever she goes. She once said that she does not fear old age and she does not fear death, and that she only fear the senility of the brain and that when the time comes that she is going to be dead twice, stating that that is the more reason why she is willing to work now.
