MIJWIZ: Jordan musical instrument

The mijwiz is a traditional musical instrument that is used in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Druze. The name of the musical instrument in Arabic means dual or married because of the instrument that is being made up of two, short, bamboo reed pipes joined together, making the musical instrument a double pipe, single-reed woodwind musical instrument. The musical instrument is made up of two pipes that are of equal length; each pipe of the musical instrument has a round 5 or 6 small fingering holes. The musical instrument needs a special playing pattern known as "circular breathing” that is tricky but yields a continuous tone, without resting to take a breath. The musical instrument is played in Egypt and the Levant as an accompaniment musical instrument to either belly dancing or dabke. The musical instrument is most widespread today in the Levant and Egypt.
