The
western classical music, which has been considered and done over the years in
Sri Lankan since its beginning during the Portuguese colonial era of the 19th
century. The upper middle level citizens of the country traditionally created
the pedagogues, researchers, and spectator of the western classical custom in
the country, though western music which has also considered as a subject at the
secondary schools level and at the tertiary level too.

The
Symphony Group of the Sri Lanka is also one of the primogenital western groups
in South Asia. The creation of the National Youth Orchestra has assisted
increase the attention and involvement more extensively in society and within young
people outside Colombo. Many Sri Lankans have remained to reach the upper
levels of classical performance, which include the world popular cellist Rohan de Saram, and pianist Rohan de Silva and several other
musicians, instrumental artists, and organists.
