is spoken primarily in the North West of Pakistan but there are also
considerable speaking populations in Pakistan’s main urban centers of Karachi,
Islamabad and Lahore. During and after the Soviet profession of Afghanistan,
subsequent advent of millions of Afghan immigrants to Pakistan and much of the
Afghan (Dari/Persian) music industry was kept alive by performing and
recordings made in Pakistan. Over 20 years, Persian traditional music has made
considerable and frequently indirect supported the Pakistani music industry.
Singers from Afghanistan constantly perform across Pakistan mainly at weddings
and other formal occasions. Singers include Farida Khanum, ustad nusrat fateh
ali khan Rahat fateh ali khan, Mehdi Hassan, Igbal Bano and Abida Parveen were
among the people that song ghazals in Persian.
