The early instance of the punk rock in Japan include The Star
Club, The Stalin, Inu, SS, Gaseneta, Bomb factory, Lizard (who were produced by
the Stranglers) and Friction (whose guitarist Reck had formerly played with
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks before coming to Tokyo) and The Blue hearts. The
early punk scene was immortalized on film by Sogo Ishii, who directed the 1982
film Burst City featuring a cast of punk ensembles/ artists and also filmed
videos for the Stalin. In the 80s, hardcore ensemble such as GISM, Gauze, Lip
Cream, Confuse and Systematic Death started emerging, some incorporating
crossover elements. The independent scene also includes a diverse number of
alternative/post-punk/new wave musicians such as P-Model, Uchoten, Aburadako,
Auto-Mod, Buck-tick, Guernica and Yapoos (both of which featured Jun Togawa).
G-Schmitt, Jagatara and Totsuzen Danball, along with noise/industrial ensembles
like Hijokaidan and Hanatarashi.
