Popular Opera Music of Finland

Since the year 1960, Sinfonia Lahti’s reputation as one of the most important Scandinavian groups was cemented by conductor Osmo Vanska, this promoted to cause a boom in opera’s popularity during the year 198-, while the way was increasingly seen as archaic elsewhere.

Martti Talvela, Karita Mattila and Jorman Hynninen have become the international opera stars, while singers such as Olli Kortekangas, Kalevi Aho, Aulis Sallinen, Paavo Heininen, IIkka Kuusisto, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and Atso Almila have written successful opera music, with Rautavaara mainly achieving the international success.
