The
Faroese music is basically vocal, which is followed by the fiddle (that arrived
in the 17th century) and dancers of the Europeans like the polka and
minuet, in the Faroese history as at the 20th century, choirs have
played a very significant role in the musical history and some of the famous
known present choirs are Havnarkore, Tarira, Torshavnar Manskor, Ljomur,

A
great part of the foreign music and instruments remained fampus only in the
capital and biggest city, Torshaun. The people of the rural areas remained true
to the traditional of chain dance and ballads. The ballads comprise three types
namely Kubroi, taettir and visir, after the World War II, many of these dances
were reawakened, when a number of dance societies were formed. The ballads were
greatly put together in Corpus carminum faeroensium, with over 44,000 stanzas
being collected. Among other songs in the Faroese folk are Skjaldur, fantastic
fairy tales sung by adults for children and pitch-sliding microtonal hymes
called kingosalmar.
