Finland
is known for their heavy metal acts, such as death metal, folk metal, black
metal, cello metal, power metal, folk metal and symphony metal sub-genres. In
the later 1990s the symphonic metal orchestra known as apocalyptica played
Metallica cover rhythms as cello quartteos and sold half a million records
worldwide, the currently retired Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus were
one of the Finland’s most famous metal acts in the early 2000s, having risen
from the ashes of the late 1980s to early 1990s cult band Lyijykomppania. The
children’s influence on the metal band Hevisaurus have also become famous,
mostly in the native country.

Several
Finnish metal groups have attained considerable worldwide success within the
underground metal scene; some of the remarkable instance of such groups is Stratovarius
that is highly renowned as one of the top power metal bands of the world, and
the children of Bodon, with their creative mixture of power metal and melodic
death metal.
The
Nightwish is considered as a forerunner of symphonic metal that incorporates
power metal as well as gothic metal in its music, and had Tarja Turnen, which
is a classical singing soprano as its vocalist until the year 2005. The band
has gained platinum and gold certifications for its music sales in many
countries and it is the third bestselling Finnish artist. This has also been
nominated to many awards, and amongst the ones it has won 11 Emma-gala awards,
an Echo awards and MTV Europe music award, a world music award, and a metal
storm award. In the year 2000 the band take part in the Finnish qualification
for the Eurovision song contest and ended at the second place.
Kotiteollisuus
is undoubtedly one of the most famous groups in Finland having released a platinum
and many gold-selling songs and winning Emma-awards in the year 2003 and 2005
for the best metal record (Helvetista Itaan) and the best DVD (Kotiteollisuus DVD )
respectively. In the most recent days, the Finnish hard rock band Lordi won the
2006 Eurovision song contest with a record 292 points, giving Finland the first
ever victory. The song they used was hard Rock Hallelujah and they celebrated
this with a free show in Market Square in Helsinki, Finland in the year 2006.
Another
band to enjoy the recent commercial success is the Rasmus, after eleven years
together and several local albums, the band finally captured Europe, their Dead
Letters album sold 1.5 million copies worldwide and garnered them eight gold
and five platinum album designations. The single in the Shadows placed on top
10 charts in the eleven countries and was the most played video on the MTV
Europe for 2005, the Helsinki natives released their follow up song, Hide from
the Sun, which is locally released in the year 2005, the album has a U.S
release date of 10.10.2006, to help the albums US released, the band has
travelled with Welsh band Lostprophets, a band that has received a great deal
of success in both Europe and in the United States. The new song Black roses is
set to be released on September, the album was released by Desmond Child and
the first single which is known as Livin in a world without you. This song was
released worldwide on September 29, and the single living in a world without
you was released on the 10th of September 2008.
In
the beginning of 2000, HM reached greater sales and more international success
than any other band to ever come from Finland, gold is the first official
American release Dark Light, many Finnish bands have joined the lead of that band, Entwine, Poisonblack
and Lullacry are just a few Finnish bands of these kinds.
