Electronic Music of Finland

The electronic music, Jori Hulkkonen, as well as Jimi Tenor and Pan sonic have had underground success in the world for the era. In the sphere of trance Finland has given birth to internationally renowned DJs Orkidea, Alex Kunnari, DJ Proteus, JS16, Super8 & Tab and Paavo Sukjamaki. Other famous Finnish musicians are Imatran Voima, Mesak, Mr. Velcro Fastener, Luomo aka Vladislav Delay, Brothomstates, Lackluster, Pan Sonic, Opl: Bastards and Ovuca, and some of the best-known electronic music labels are among all Sahko recording, Kahvi records, Dum records (run by Kimmo Rapatti which is also known as Mono Junk) and Jyvaskylas Rikos records.

The indisputable forerunner of the Finnish electronic music is Erkki Kurenniemi who built his renowned DIMI synthesizers in the late 1960s and in the early 1970s. There is also the Finnish underground psy dream culture, which is mostly active in the Helsinki metropolitan area, the Finnish pattern (suomisaundi) of psy dream music is known in the globe and has notable supporters abroad, for instance in japan and Russia, the main characters in Finnish psy dream are musicians like Mullet Mohawk, Texas Faggott and Squaremeat, by far the most famous Finnish electronica musicians is Darude (Ville Virtanen), who received the international success with his chart-topping single Sandstorm, and the following song before the storm. His music is a mixture of hard house and progressive dream, the Finnish hard dance scene has also gained some popularity, mainly due to Helsinki based DJ Proteus winning the title of the Best DJ at the hard dance awards in the year 2004 and 2005. Finland also has a famous and internationally recognized freeform hardcore scene, with the FINRG label that enjoyed the large success in the United Kingdom, Australia and more recently in Canada and the United States. In experimental electronica, noise and ambient electronic music of Finland is represented by musicians such as Pink Twins, Petri Kuljuntausta,  Rihmasto, Ihokas, Ozone Player, Nemesis, Dystopia, Outer space alliance, corporate 09 and winterplanet.
