Some
of the Colombian communities like Choco, Cartagenaa, San Andres and Province
Island have large Africa-descendant community. Unlike the most of the country,
the cultural mixing native and the European powers have been common, and
especially in EI Choco, music has changed small since it has been imported from
West Africa. The Providencia Island is also a home to a kind of folk music,
which is closely related it mento, a Jamaica traditional form. The most
powerful, however, is the city of the Cartagena and its champeta music which
has been influenced by the soukous, compass, zouk, and reggae. The Champeta
musicians include Luis Towers, EI Afinaito, EI Sayayin, EI Pupy, and Boogaloo,
while others such as Elio Boom have incorporated Jamaican ragamuffin music to
champeta. Another noteworthy group is the BIP, who originally did champeta
music and recently are doing reggaeton, without leaving the champeta roots
behind.
