The stoessel lute is a stringed
musical instrument fabricated by Georg Stossel in the year 1914 in Cologne,
Germany. The steel strings of the musical instrument are fingered not by
putting the hands round the neck, but over the end of the instrument. To this
end, most versions of the musical instrument have short necks.in effect, it is
a hybrid between a necked string musical instrument and a zither instrument.

The musical instrument was well-known
in Germany and many other places in the early part of the 20th
century; the musical instrument was constantly used in schools in Austria and
Germany in their Inter-war era. The Second World War put an end to the
production of the musical instrument and the instrument never regained its
former stand.
