Gombey dance in Bermuda

The Gombey dance is an iconic symbol of the Bermuda tradition; it joins elements of the British, West African, and the indigenous New World and Andres of Colombia cultures. In the addition of the Bahamian Goombay culture, Gombey is similar to some other Afro-Caribbean patterns and celebrations (like the Mummers). The Afro-Caribbeans brought to Bermuda as slaves or prisoners during colonial times introduced other Caribbean culture.
