The musical instrument is performed
in small villages that are near Trabzon and Rize. An analogous musical
instrument that has less holes is found on the island of Greece. The use of the
musical instrument is also widespread in the region of Macedonia in the
Northern part of Greece amongst the population of Pontian Greek. What differentiates
the dankiyo bagpipe from other versions of bagpipe instruments is that the
dankiyo does not make use of a separate pipe for the drone. Rather, the sound
is produced by two reeds in the chanter of the musical instrument.
The musical instrument is made up of
these parts; the flute, which is made of wood and reeds, the skin that is of
animal skin, the blowpipe from wood or bone and the reeds.
