The pifilca is a kind of
ductless flute that has similar qualities with silbato found in Patagonia,
specifically in the Argentine provinces of the Rio Negro and Neuquen. The
pifilca is a wind instrument that has a longitudinal filo-flauta with the tube
being closed at its lower end and the middle portion having a single hole. It
is manufactured of wood that has a length range of about 30-40cm without any
opening. The tube is bore about halfway through its length and brings out only
a single sound. Its sound tone is meant to mix with a song or group of
instruments in a rhythmic way.
