Underground musics in Guatemala

In the year 2006, the last rock station on FM disappeared from the airwaves and there was no longer support from the media. As a result many hundreds of artists began developing musical patterns on underground movements and self-producing, and also because of the lack of support from the media, the band began promoting on the internet on sites as MySpace. Com and rockrepublik.net and targeted on smaller spectators on more specific music genres, this also had a problem which is an overpopulation of the musical projects which are still (nowadays) looking for a way to bring a new face to music in Guatemala.

In the year 2010 there are several projects which have been transcending among the overpopulated underground movement. Dubvolution on reggae dub, Evilminded in electronic music, Treateth, Virus Belico, Metal Requiem and Zarkasmo in metal. Los Mojarras and Xb’alanke in instrumental music and several other musicians like Assabeth, Silent Poetry, None at Last, Madam Funto, Trinky and pop sensation Woodser.

Maybe the best known band are La Tona, Viernes Verde, Bohemia Suburbana, Viento en Contra, Ei Tambor de la Tribu, and Malacates Trebol Shop, although there are many others. Notable famous singers like the new generation of pop stars such as Tuco Cardenas (whose music gender is actually folk), Shery, Carlos Catania, Magda Angelica, Tavo Barcenas, Raul Aguiree, Carlos Pena and Giovanni Passarelli etc.

In the metal music bands there are band like Virus Belico, celula, Treateth, Metal Requiem, Zarcasmo, TOBA, Astaroth, A Walking Legend and E.X.T.I.N.C.I.O.N and many others.
