Balkan Brass Music of Serbia

The Balkan brass, which is brass ensemble is known as trubaci (trumpeters0 are mostly renowned, particularly in the Central and Southern Serbian where Balkan ensemble derived. The music has its own customs from the first Serbian Uprising. The trumpet is also used as the military instrument to wake and gather soldiers and give information, the trumpet took on the role of the entertainment during interruption, as soldiers used it to transpose renowned traditional songs.

When the end of the war and the solider get back to their rural life, the music entered civilian life and eventually became a music pattern, which accompany the births, baptisms, slaves, wedding, farewell parties for those joining military service, state and church occasions, harvesting, reaping and funerals. During in the year 1831 the first official military ensemble was created by Prince Milos Obrenovic. Roman nonne have changed the custom and improved the music, and now most of the well-known artists are Roma.

The well-known Serbian brass artists include Boban Markovic and Fejat Sejdic and they are also the biggest names in the world of current brass ensemble leaders. Guca trumpet festival is one of the very renowned and vast music festivities in Serbia and it is a 5 days annual festival with over 3000000 spectators.
