Hip Hop/Rap Music of Malawi

The Malawian urban music really started with the famous group known as Real Elements. The group comprises of Marvel (loius Chikuni), Plan B (Kimba Anderson-Mutaba), Six (Jerome Kalinani) and Q (Quabaniso Malewezi). They brought into Malawi the urban American sound with Chichewa lyrics. They were also featured on channel O to perform in Malawi and to open the United Kingdom hip pop artists like blak twang.  They encouraged the new genre of Malawian music in the form of the urban hip hop and rap music patterns that was uniquely Malawian.

Since the inception of the Real elements, the Malawian hip hop genre has grown. This includes Young Kay, Phyzix, A.B, Third Eye a.k.a Mandela Mwanza, Dominant 1, Cyclone, Incyt, Pittie boyz, The Daredevilz, The Basement, Lomwe, Biriwiri, Jay-T Pius Parsley, The Legendary Barryone, Renegade & Pilgrim, Nthumwi Pixy and unique squared international stars like Tay Grin South African based St. Bosseratti and Ireland based/award winning rapper Pop Dogg, the best artiste male 2011 and best song collaboration 2011.
