The
music gospel is one of Malawi’s greatest famous music types. It became famous
in the 1990s. The Pope’s 1989 visit did much to encourage the rise in gospel
music which was also powered by the country’s economic conditions and poverty.
Renowned Malawian gospel musicians include Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Lloyd Phiri,
Ndirande Anglican Voices, Grace Chinga, George Mkandawire and the Chitheka
Family.

also some secular musicians became born again; Malawi has seen a rise in the
change of gospel music particularly in the urban genre. The early hip hop
rappers include the Strategy and Chart Rock. Presently, David (previously Stix
from Real Elements, KGB and Gospel (Aubrey Mvula) are now the leaders in this
form of gospel rap.
There
are also two upcoming artists of the gospel hip hop or urban music that based
in Lilongwe and the popularly known area youthful 18 crew, the Brothers in
Christ (BIC) and the King of Malawi Gospel House beatz DJ Kali have taken the
spreading of the gospel to highest heights.
