The most famous patterns in Ivory Coast are imported from reggae from Jamaica and hip hop from the United States; which the country has produced a successful musicians of both genres especially Alpha Blondy whose brand of Afro-reggae became the national hit following the appearance on the TV show which is the first chance in 1983. Tiken Jah Fakoly is another fame Ivorian reggae musician who has been in exile due to this politically outspoken lyric, although, the uniquely in Africa reggae is the most famous music genre and Abidjan is seen as one of the reggae capital of the world.

The hip hop has been popular in Ivory Coast since the mid-1990s and it includes a gangsta rap-influenced style that is known as rap dogba. A notable hip hop musicians include the All Mighty, Rudy Rudiction, M.C Claver and Anglo. The recent R&B group 2431(which formerly known as Monah) is also taking over as the R&B  became very popular since United State chart-topping Akon had a concert in Abidjan in late 2006 and other R&B stars such as Teeyah and Tour de Garde.
