Säkkipilli is a general name that is given to Finnish bagpipe instruments. The name also applied to the formerly extinct traditional Finnish bagpipes that are currently being rebuilt.

Images of the musical instrument show in painting that has been traced back to the 15th century at a church in Taivassalo, but is not definite as to whether the image is meant to portray a local Finnish tradition. Later 17th century sources mentioned the bagpipes in Turku.

One famous advocate of the revival of the Finnish bagpipes is the musician known as Petri Prauda. Petri started performing the Estonian torupill and later reconstructed the Finnish bagpipes based on the museum example.
