The roneatek is a type of xylophone
that is used in the Khmer classical music of Cambodia. This instrument is built
to be in the shape of curved rectangular shaped ship or boat. The roneatek has
21 thick bamboo or hard wood bars that are hanged from strings attached to the
two walls of the instrument. They are cut into smaller sizes of the same width,
although they are of different lengths and thickness.

Formally, these musical instruments were
highly ornamented with designs and carvings on the side of the sound box. These
days, they are simpler. The roneatdek is one of the instruments that are used
in the pinpeat group and in that ensemble, this instrument is placed to the
right of the roneatthung; a lower pitched xylophone. This musical instrument is
similar equal to the xylophone called ranatek in Thailand.
