The
Virgin Islander culture is syncretic, which is based mainly on African,
European and North American cultures, thus, the Danish controlled the present
day Unite States Virgin Islands for several years, the leading language has
been an English based Creole since the 19th century, and the island
remain much more open to English language famous culture than any other. The
Dutch, the French and the Danish also make elements to the islands culture, as
have settlers from the Arab world, the Indian and other Caribbean islands. The
single largest influence on the recent Virgin islander culture, however, comes
from the Africans enslaved to work in cane fields from the 17th to
mid-19th century. These African slaves brought with them their
traditions from across the globe and a wide swathe of African which include what
is now Nigerian, Senegal, both Congo’s, Gambia and Ghana.
