Willy Puchner was born and grew up in Mistelbach an der
Zaya, Lower Austria, where his parents owned a picture studio.
He moved to the city
of Vienna in the year 967 to attent photography classes at the Höhere
Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt
After graduating in
the year 1974, Willy Puchner
taught photography at the institution for the total of 2 years.
Since the year 1978, Willy Puchner works as a freelance photographer and
writer and is based in the city of Vienna. He started his study of philosophy,
history and sociology in the year 1983 and finished his studied in the year
1988 with a master’s degree in philosophy.
Willy Puchner became famous with
his project called Penguins – Travelling the World. For the total of four
years, he toured with his penguis, Joe and Sally to the site of his and our
yearning: to the sea and into the desert, to NY, Sydney and Paris, Honolulu, Venice, Tokyo, Rome and Cairo so as
to capture them into the pictures.
Willy Puchner like
working with old people, creating the project called Die 90-jährigen, Dialog
mit dem Alter, Die 100-jährigen, Lebensgeschichte und Fotografie and Liebe im
Alter.
