Life and Career
Ilse Aichinger was born in the year 1921 in the city of Vienna together
with the twin sister called Helga to a Christian teacher and a Jewish doctor.
The family of the mother was assimilated and she was raised as a catholic.
Ilse Aichinger spent her childhood in the city of Linz and Vienna and
that was where her family was subjected to the persecution of Nazi beginning
from the year 1933.
She started studying medicine in the year 1945 and worked as a writer on
the side. She narrated her experience at the time of the Nazi in her first
novel called Das vierte
Tor. She interrupted her studies after 5 semesters in school to chase her
second novel called Die größere in the year1948.
She got married to a German writer called Günter
Eich and they gave birth to their first son called Clemens on the 22nd
May 1954 and their daughter called Mirjam was born in the year 1958.
