Life
Ernst Hinterberger was born and died in the city of Vienna. He was the son of an unemployed typesetter; his father died when he was at the age of 7. He finished his training as an electrician, and then from the year 1950 to the year 1952, he trained at the Police School of the city of Vienna to be a police, but he left after a few weeks because he needed glasses and that was not needed at that time. He worked as a laborer after his stay in the police of the country. In the year 1958, Ernst Hinterberger got married and attended the Library School of the city of Vienna and after that he worked for the total of 10 years as a librarian in adult education centre of the library. After the library has been closed in the year 1968, Ernst Hinterberger worked in the shipping factory and was there until he retired in the year 1991. He could not depend on only writing for his source of income. He got his lungs damaged from the factory work.
He found out about his talent in literature in the 1950s through Oskar Maria Graf, the Bavarian writer. He started writing at the age of 24.
He has resided in a 44 square metre city-owned flat on the Margaretengürtel in the city of Vienna.
His wife, Margarete died in the year 2001, after 45 years of marriage.
