The habban is kind of bagpipe instrument that is used in the
southern coast of the Persian Gulf. The name of the instrument is one of the
many Arabic terms that are used for bagpipe instruments. The name of the
musical instrument may be derived from the term Hanban, which is tye Persian
name for bag. In Kuwait, the term habban is used to refer to the traditional
Bedouin bagpipe musical instrument.
While the name habban is a general name, in Oman, the name of
the musical instrument is more particularly a version of the Great Highland
Bagpipe that has been added to the local music.
