October 1992. He was an argentine double bass tango musician. He played in
different groups including the following; AníbalTroilo’sorquestatípica,
Astor
Piazzolla’sfirst Quinteto
and Conjunto

and finally Sexteto Major.

Biography
Díaz is commonly known with his nickname, Kicho. He was born in the city of Avellaneda in the region of
Buenos Aires. He had two older brothers, David, who became a player of the
violin and Jose, who became a player of the tango double bass.
Kicho Díaz started his musical career in the year 1935, and that was when he
joined a tango group as a player of the double bass with the player of piano
called Jose Pascual and AnselmoAiete. In the year 1939KichoDíaz joined the orquestratipica of AnibalTroilo that
consisted of OrlandoGoñi,
player of the piano, Roberto Gianitelli,
Juan
Miguel Toto Rodríguez, players of the bandoneonand the
singer Francisco
Fiorentino. He was with them until the year 1959.
In the year 1960, Kicho Díaz
joined Astor Piazolla’s first Quinteto
and Piazolla wrote the tango Kicho
as a tribute to him. In the year 1968, Piazolla brought the orchestra together
including Díaz to play thee operetta Maria de Buenos Aires and between the year
1971 and the year 1972, Kicho Díaz
performed with Piazolla’sConjunto 9.
Kicho Díaz joined the Quinteto Real in the year 1962, with HoracioSalgan as the
player of the piano, Ubaldo de Lío andEnrique Mario Francini
playing the violin and Pedro Laurenz
playing the bandoneon, and he sometimes performed with orqestra of Mariano
Mores. Later in the year 1976, Kicho Díaz joined Sexteto Mayor, and with the group, he performed until he died
in the year 1992.
Kicho Díaz was pronounced to be the tango Double Bass player of the century by
the Legislature of Buenos Aires in the year 2000.
