Jota
which is well-known all over Spain might have its historical origins in the
southern part of Aragon. Jota instruments include guitar, tambourine,
castanets, bandurria and in time to
time with the flute. Aragonese music
can be considered by dense percussive rudiments some have tried to characterize
to an effect from the North African Berbers. The guitarro is a distinctive type of small guitar which is also seen
in Murcia, seems Aragonese in roots.
Apart from its music for stick-dances and dulzaina
(shawm), Aragonese chiflo has its
own giata de boto (known as bagpipes)
and chiflo (known as tabor pipe). As in the Basque country, Aragonese chiflo can be played with the
chicoten cord-drum (psaltery) rhythm.
