The
rock and roll initial came into Uruguayan spectators with the advent of the
British ensemble like the Beatles in the early 60s. a wave of the ensembles
emerged in Montevideo, which include the Los Mockers, Los Iracundos, Los
Shakers and Los Malditos, who became the main figures in the so-known Uruguayan
Invasion of Argentina. In the coming of the military dictatorship in the year
1973, the Uruguayan rock scene effectively died and during the mid-80s it
revived. Since the beginning of the 2000s the Uruguayan rock has attained a great
fame. Ensembles such as La Trampa or Buitres, La Vela Pureca and No Te Gustar
have a huge supporter. A rock festival in the city of Duzano brings more than
100,000 people each year.
