The Paranakan traditional music is known
for its mixture of English in Malay-encouraged melodies, vastly because the Peranakans themselves ate frequently
familiar in both languages. Current melodies continues to be composed based on
the Peranakan culture such as Bunga Sayang a themes song from Dick
Lee’s musical known as Kampung Amber.
The song became frequently sung main of the National Day Parade and attained
international acquaintance when it was performed for the opening ceremony of
the 117th IOC Session at the Esplanade.

In
the year 1960 Butt Rock Funky beat Singapore’s pop scene, when the Blue
Diamonds performed, and launched after Cliff Richard & the Shadows came
back after a year, thus the introduction of the beat flourish. In other
countries, the British Invasion began in the year 1963, which was led by The
Beatles. Some ensembles remained instrumental, while other joined singers. The
British R&B became well-known, and spawned to the native Malay type. Pop
artists of the 60s includes Ismail Haron
& the guys, Les Kafila’s, Naomi & the Boys, Mike Ibrahim & the Nite
Walkers, D’4 Ever, Swallows and Antarctics.
The
late 1970s and the early 80s saw the emergence of the rock ensembles like Sweet
charity faced by the charismatic vocalist Ramil
Sarip. Ensemble had such influence in the Singapore and Malaysia music
scene which was later dominated to a rock explosion in the mid-1980s.
The
ensemble in the 90s produced alternative and indie influences such as Concave Scream, The Padres, Humpback Oak,
Oddfellows, Livionia, with the ensemble KICK, contracted to the Pony Canyon
label, making a strong wave in the pop scene with a veer of radio hits and a
strong support base.
